It’s fun to remember back to things you remember so boldly from your childhood. Last night I had a dream and I woke up thinking about a bubble gum monster.
I remember watching some TV show or movie that had a purple slime creature that grew from radioactive bubble gum and became a walking talking bubble gum monster in a black trench coat. He totally scared the crap out of me when I was little cause he used to slime everyone and had the catchphrase: “Are you laughing at me? Are you laughing at me?! (cackle)”
So I tried to track it down by searching for phrases like “bubble gum monster”, “purple man trench coat”, “are you laughing at me guy”, and I came upon the answer. The show was called Ghostwriter. I used to come home every day after school and watch the show religiously. Apparently the series ended with the “Attack of the Slime Monster” episodes parts 1 through 3. You can buy the book version of the storyline here.
The strangest thing is that I can’t seem to find any pictures of him.
If anyone can find any images, please let me know in the comments below. I don’t know if you remember the show or creature, but hopefully this post will be a nice resource on the net for people who had the same question as me. I’ll feel like I’ve accomplished something.
Update: Mission Accomplished! Thanks to commenter Kyle, we now have pictures of this elusive creature. Also, his name has been found too: Gooey Gus. Pics below, reader beware!

@__@;; yeah, i can’t seem to find any pictures either…I’M STILL SEARCHING. that thing scared me half to death, but yet, i still want to see it again. i miss that show. D: tell me if you find anything?

also his name is gooey gus and by the way he still scares the hell out of me! seriously there is something compleatly demented about him.
i still remember when i was at my cousin’s house and that episode was on. well i saw one clips of him and i was freaked out (i hid behind one of them). well they found out i was afraid so they held my head so i had to watch! i know i could have closed my eyes but you know how it is when you are a kid you just have to look. so after a couple of minutes i started to cry and my aunt made them stop. i had nightmares of him for years.

WOW! I had meant to look up the purple gum monster forever. I finally do and a few other people experienced it the same way i did… IT SCARED THE HELL OUT OF ME!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks u guys for bringing back this painful memory. :)

You have eased many lingering thoughts regarding our friend, Gus. For two years, I have eagerly been searching for a picture of him. I could never, ever find him, no matter how hard I looked. Almost everytime I have had internet available to me for a long while, I tried. I stumbled upon your site, and found the pictures. I was small when the show was out, and watched it, as you did, religiously. I remember the nightmares that bubblegum monster gave me, and how scared I was of him. When I look at those pictures, I realize why. He is just as unsettling as he always was. He really is scary. Don’t you think?

omg i remember this show, I had nightmares for so many years and i couldnt be alone in the dark forever! i just kept imagining gus coming out with his “are you laughing at me” tag line… or he would be just standing there staring at me… shudder

this thing scared the shit out of me so bad. i always thought it was at the end of the hallway in my house, so i would sprint by it whenever i had to pass it. I never saw the end either! all i remember is they threw a bucket of water on him that had been sitting in the sun for too long and was hot. so it got bigger. and then it was like stay tuned next week blahblablah. i still wonder what happened to him.

Omg I remember this freaky show and the other day I was talking to my boyfriend about old tv shows and thought of this one but had no clue what it was called and then I forgot but tonight I was talking to my friend on msn and I asked him and he suggested I look it up on google so I did and found this page! Thanks for helping me out. If you type in ‘Ghostwriters’ in youtube it will come up with the episodes of it just incase you’re interested. Catcha. Xx

My mom used to make fun of me for how scared I was of that thing. He was CREEPY. Still is.
I stumbled on your site last night and I was very relieved to find that others were also scared of him and I wasn’t just a big pansy. :) Thanks for the reassurance. haha
